Global Health Partnerships

Aside from reaching out and providing healthcare support to local communities in the Philippines, the Pfizer Philippines Foundation also leverages its global network and its brand as a responsible corporate citizen to embark on campaigns that support pro-activeness and vigilance in health among Filipinos all over.

In 2007, the Foundation launched on the Quit Smoking Support Program (QUITSS), a program implemented in partnership with Philippine Business for Social Progress, to roll out a "smoke-free workplace" program in 40 firms around the Philippines. Running for three years and with a budget of $220,000, including a local matching fund from Pfizer Foundation US, QUITSS enjoined the support of 39 firms and organizations and 10 schools.

Popular singer-activist Noel Cabangon composed the program's jingle. As of the close of the program in 2010, 18 more schools have expressed their interest to conduct advocacy sessions or install the program in their institutions. QUITSS also won the Philippine Quill Merit Award for Communication Management in the Economic, Social, and Environmental Development Category in 2009.

Another of Pfizer Philippines Foundation's projects is Ating Dibdibin, its project with I CAN SERVE and the American Cancer Society. The project involved installing a community-based breast screening program as part of Marikina City's healthcare services.

Running from 2008 to 2010, and with a total budget of $20,000, with a local matching fund from Pfizer Foundation US, Ating Dibdibin trained 200 doctors and health workers, screened  more than 2,000 women whose progress was tracked, and increased awareness for early breast cancer detection, with more people visiting the Marikina Breast Clinic. It also established the Marikina Breast Cancer Registry and tapped as its endorser multi-award-winning thespian, Lea Salong.

As of the close of the program, other cities have expressed their intent to install the program in their localities, with Cebu City identified as the next site.

As a global healthcare company that places emphasis on research-based treatments and healthcare solutions, Pfizer deems it important to improve the research capacity of local doctors, healthcare workers, health scientists, and healthcare agencies.
