In line with its commitment to help uplift the lives of Filipinos, United Way Philippines together with Pfizer recently distributed goats to support the livelihood of families in Barangay Oson, Tabaco, Albay.
About 46 families received male and female goats from United Way, with the valuable support of the Rotary Club of Tabaco Mayon.
Goat beneficiaries were assessed and selected by the Rotary Club of Tabaco Mayon to ensure proper care of the goats and continuity of the livelihood project. To widen the project's coverage, as soon as the female goat gives birth, the family beneficiary is obliged to turn the baby goat over to another family in the community who was not part of the initial beneficiaries. On the other hand, those who received the male goats are expected to draw income from the payment they will receive from breeding their male goats to female goats.
Pfizer's Animal Health Division and Philanthropy Committee gave free animal medicines for the goats. Pfizer also conducted a free lecture on animal care for the beneficiaries.
The Bureau of Animal Industry and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural resources Research and Development (PCARRD) likewise extended assistance by giving information about goat-raising.
