Pfizer Reaches Out to Pasig's Urban Poor
In line with its commitment to improving the quality of life of people in the community, Pfizer recently conducted a medical mission in Brgy. Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City. This outreach activity was initiated by the Pfizer Pfellows Committee and Pfizer Philippines Foundation in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) under its Strategic Private Partnership for Urban Poverty Reduction (STEP UP) program.
As recommended by PBSP, Pfizer employee-volunteers and doctors headed to an urban poor community in Brgy. Pinagbuhatan called LPLU to hold the medical mission. The community has a population of more than 700 with a household size of six. Many residents are skilled workers and homemakers with a family income of P4,000.
More than 400 residents availed of the free medical consultations, child deworming, and lecture on basic healthcare and sanitation given by the doctors and volunteers. It was stressed during the lecture that cleanliness and proper hygiene are vital to achieving good health of the family.
On a larger scale, Pfizer continues with its various philanthropic efforts in the Philippines, the biggest of which is the Leaders for Health Project, a partnership with the DOH and the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. The project hopes to be able to contribute to the poorest barrios by developing a corps of competent, professional and committed leaders who will provide effective and strategic leadership in various levels of the Philippine health care system.
Pfizer is a global research-based healthcare company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets innovative medicines for humans and animals, and many of the world's best-known consumer products.
