Pfizer holds Patient Clubs General Meeting
In line with its commitment to provide patients with value-added services, Pfizer conducted the first Pfizer Patient Clubs General Meeting entitled "1sa Puso: One in Health, One in Wellness. The gathering took place recently at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, QC. The event was attended by over 1,500 guests, filling the venue to maximum capacity.

Patients arrived in droves as they lined up for the free medicines, healthy products like oatmeal and milk, and free health checks, which included cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, ECG, and dental check-ups.

Guests headed for the theatre where they watched a lifestyle talk show about health, hosted by upbeat TV personality Tin-tin Bersola. After a hearty introduction by Pfizer Medical Director Dr. Anthony Leachon, the spotlight was focused on Dr. Adolfo Bellosillo, Foundation for Lay Education of Heart Disease (FLEHD) President. Dr. Bellosillo's wit and humor added life to the serious discussion on the heart, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Then the "well-rounded" comedienne Marissa Sanchez got up on stage to tease the audience a sample of her comedy and singing skills. Cardiologist and UST Professor Joselito Atabug was next as he expounded on the effects of smoking, diet, sex and exercise on the heart. He also discussed lifestyle changes needed to ensure that individuals lead a healthy life. Dr. Rosario Baes, a rheumatologist from UST, joined the discussion to talk about exercise for people with arthritis.
Finally, Marissa came back and brought the house down with her encore performance. People in the audience were rolling in the aisles as the comedienne delivered her comedy and song act as the show's finale.
"This event is a very good idea; the club has helped me much in living a healthy and low-heart-attack-risk lifestyle," said Rafael Enriquez, a retired airline pilot and Pfizer LIFE club member. "After I had a heart attack, the LIFE club has provided me with the information and encouragement on how to avoid another one."
"The patient clubs are in line with Pfizer's goal of bringing patient care to the next level," said Dr. Leachon. "We designed this event to help patients better take care of their health and be entertained at the same time."
The Pfizer Patient Clubs are called LIFE, SCIENCE and FLEX: The LIFE Club is for patients who have high cholesterol; the SCIENCE Club is for patients with high blood pressure; and the FLEX Club is for patients who have arthritis. Currently, there are over 70,000 members nationwide for the three clubs. Members are given valuable information on diseases and guidelines on diet and lifestyle changes, as well as discount privileges and fun gift items. Patients who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or arthritis may also ask their doctors directly about Pfizer's patient clubs.
