The Philippine Heart Center (PHC), Philippine Heart Center Medical Alumni Society (PHC MAS) and Pfizer recently held a formal contract signing agreement to put up a PHC patient education clinic and virtual library for doctors, students and patients.
The joint project will be located at the 8th floor of the Medical Arts Building. At present, the 8th floor is being renovated to house the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center, the Pulmo Foundation, Cheers and Preventive Cardiology Department.
The Patient Education Clinic is the first clinic in the country that will allow doctors to refer their patients, and where patients can learn more about their disease conditions, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The clinic consists of a viewing area, individual cubicles and consultation room where patients can discuss diseases with doctors. Educational materials, multimedia, print materials, VHS tapes, audio tapes, VCD and online information will also be available.
Another component of the project is the availability of closed circuit TV technology materials from the information center that will be shown in different monitors at the different floors of the center where patients waiting along the corridors can view to get medical information.
The virtual library on the other hand, will have 5 computer stations with free Internet access, one terminal with OVID online, mini library of books and other educational materials and a reading area. Aside from the PHC virtual library, Pfizer has also established virtual libraries at the University of Santo Thomas (UST) and the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
The PHC clinic and virtual library will also include a conference room for doctors.
