Department of Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit was the guest of honor at the inauguration of the new Philippine Heart Center-Medical Alumni Society-PFIZER Information Center for patients and doctors at the Medical Arts Bldg. of the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City last Ash Wednesday, the 13th of February.
Seen as a major boost to the country's continuing battle against cardiovascular diseases, which have killed more Filipinos than any other ailment, the information center is complete with a wide range of books, journals and other educational materials on cardiovascular diseases and related topics. Computers and audio-visual equipment are likewise available to those who want to research on the latest scientific developments concerning heart diseases.
The state-of-the-art facility, which also features a closed circuit TV, is open to patients, doctors, paramedical professionals including nurses and caregivers who want to be updated on the latest techniques in heart trouble management.

Proponents of the info center pointed out that the project coincides with the PHC-MAS vision of educating patients as a first step in treatment and recovery. Pfizer was the partner of choice for the center due to its unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life of patients.
Pfizer President and Country Manager Gerry Bacarro, in stressing the significance of the partnership between the PHC and Pfizer, said that "the center stands as an example of the endless possibilities attainable when the public sector and private sector work hand in hand." Bacarro underscored the crucial role of the private sector to partner with the government in their effort to improve the health profile of the Filipinos.
