Global research-based pharmaceutical company Pfizer marked the tenth anniversary of its landmark partnership with the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) in shaping the expertise of future Filipino infectious disease experts.

The program, dubbed PPRISM (PSMID–Pfizer Interactive Anti-infectives Consensus Meeting), aims to bring together infectious disease fellows from different training institutions with the objective of sharing scientific ideas, best practices, and recent trends with each other through case presentations, and also to learn from infectious disease experts/mentors. PPRISM also aims to develop the clinical and analytical skills of infectious disease fellows during their training.

Signing the memorandum of agreement for the continued implementation of the PPRISM program this year are (seated, from left) PSMID vice president Dr. Mario Panaligan, Pfizer senior medical manager Dr. Gigi Claveria, PSMID president Dr. Mari Rose Delos Reyes, PSMID board member and PPRISM 2017 coordinator Dr. Raul Destura, together with (standing, from left) Pfizer representatives Sahli Macalinao, country brand lead Jaycille Santos, national sales lead Ding Cortes, marketing manager Lali Carag and specialist professional healthcare representative Paolo Cailes

Recently, Pfizer and PSMID renewed their partnership for 2017, signifying the commitment of both organizations to continue the advocacy of medical education in battling the threat of infectious diseases.

According to Pfizer Anti-infectives country brand lead Jaycille Santos, the renewal of the PPRISM partnership “sustains the strong scientific legacy and partnership between Pfizer and PSMID” through the six mini meetings within the year among the training institutions for infectious disease and the culminating event during the PSMID Annual Convention that is the Grand PPRISM event.

The PPRISM program involves collaboration with six training institutions—University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital, St. Luke’s Medical Center, University of Santo Tomas, San Lazaro Hospital, Makati Medical Center, and the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine.

“The program solidifies both PSMID’s and Pfizer’s thrust toward continuing medical education for young fellows in training. Likened to a  prism, which reflects light or splits light into components, PPRISM’s goal is to spread the light of knowledge that every fellow will learn in every case presentation, with Pfizer as a strong scientific partner,” adds Santos. ###
